Low-memory phones

A browser for low-RAM Android phones

A small download, ad and tracker blocking, Reader mode and tab handling that follows the memory your phone has.

ArPar is a browser for low-RAM Android phones. It uses the web engine already on your phone instead of bundling a second one, never downloads or runs the ads and trackers it blocks, and keeps recent tabs loaded, adjusting how many to the memory your phone has. It runs on Android 8.0 and newer.

One web engine, the one already on your phone

Browsers usually ship their own copy of a web engine. ArPar does not. It uses the Android System WebView that Android already keeps up to date on your phone, so there is no second engine to download. That is why ArPar is about 10 MB and why it is designed to stay quick on older, low-memory phones.

How ArPar treats tabs and pages

  • Recent tabs stay loaded and keep your place. ArPar adjusts how many it keeps to the memory your phone has.
  • Blocking saves work. Blocked ads and trackers are never downloaded or run.
  • Reader mode strips menus, pop-ups and clutter down to the text of an article.
  • Data saver mode turns images off, and a running estimate shows the data you did not have to download.
  • A recent release made ArPar start faster and use less memory with several tabs. What’s new lists each change.

Settings worth knowing on a low-RAM phone

  • Keep Android System WebView up to date. ArPar uses it to show pages, and Google Play usually updates it automatically.
  • Use Reader mode for long articles: it strips the page down to its text.
  • Turn on data saver mode to load pages without images.
