Ad blocking without root
How to block ads on Android without root
Use a browser that does the blocking itself. Install it from Google Play, open a page and blocking is already on.
ArPar lets you block ads on Android without root, because the blocking is built into the browser. Its block lists ship inside the app, blocking is on from the first page, and you install it from Google Play like any other app. There is nothing to root, switch on or configure.
Blocking inside the browser
ArPar does its blocking inside the browser. When a page asks for something from a known ad or tracker domain, ArPar stops the request before it loads. That is why it needs no root access and no VPN profile: the browser itself decides what to load.
The block lists are stored in the app, so ArPar decides what to block on your phone without sending the pages you visit anywhere.
Blocking covers the pages you open in ArPar. Set ArPar as your default browser and links you tap in other apps open in ArPar with ads and trackers already blocked.
What ArPar covers
- Blocked: ad and tracker requests on ordinary websites. The shield in the address bar shows what was stopped on the page you are on.
- Rejected or hidden: cookie consent pop-ups it recognises, plus autoplay video players, newsletter pop-ups and floating overlays.
- Where it works: inside ArPar. Ads that another app draws inside itself are outside a browser’s reach.
- YouTube: ArPar does not claim to block ads on YouTube.
- VPN: ArPar is a browser, not a VPN. It does not route your traffic through a server or hide your IP address.
Blocking works by domain, so an ad that a site serves from its own domain can still appear. Hide it with the element picker and ArPar remembers it on later visits.
How to try it
Install ArPar
Get ArPar from Google Play. It is free, downloads at about 10 MB, needs no account and runs on Android 8.0 and newer.
Open a busy page
Open a news site. Blocking is on from the first page, so there is nothing to switch on.
Tap the shield
Tap the shield in the address bar to see how many requests were blocked on the page and which domains they came from.
Make it your default browser
Open ArPar, then Settings, then Default browser. Links you tap in other apps then open in ArPar with ads and trackers already blocked.
Pause or hide when a page needs it
If one site needs its trackers to work, allow that site alone without switching blocking off everywhere. If an ad still shows, hide it with the element picker.
