Accessibility
Accessibility on this site.
I design this site for level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version two point two.
What I check at each release
- Colour contrastAn automated gate recomputes the WCAG contrast ratio of the main text and control colour pairs, such as body text, links, buttons, borders and focus rings.
- Page structureThe release script checks each page for one main heading and no skipped heading levels. It also checks for a title, a description and a language.
- LinksThe release script checks that internal links and in-page anchors work.
- ImagesThe release script checks that any image has alternative text and set dimensions.
Scope of testing. Automated contrast and structure checks run before every release.
What the pages do by design
- Skip linkEvery page starts with a link that skips to the main content.
- Keyboard focusLinks and buttons show a clear outline when they have keyboard focus.
- MotionColour transitions run only when your device has not asked for reduced motion.
- Without JavaScriptThe pages read and navigate without JavaScript.
- No overlayThe pages use no accessibility overlay widget. The features above are part of the pages themselves.
Report a problem
Email me with the page, what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology and are happy to say which, that helps.
I read every message and reply personally.
